Burns from flames are one of the most visible aspects of fire damage, but even after the blaze has been put out, the hazardous remains of smoke and soot are left behind. The cleaning process after a fire can be challenging, so choosing the right restoration service is vital to getting back on your feet. SERVPRO® of Hurst-Euless-Bedford has a 24-Hour Emergency Disaster Response Team that is available 7 days a week ready to jump in and help you when you suffer a fire loss. The following tips can help you limit damage until help arrives:

  • If the outside temperature is 60° or above, air out the structure to reduce smoke odor.
  • Limit movement within the structure as to prevent soot particles from causing any further damage to carpet, rugs, and upholstery.
  • Cover high traffic areas, such as carpets or rugs, with old linens or towels to prevent soiling.
  • DO NOT touch anything. Soot on your hands can filter through upholstery, wood, and walls causing more damage.
  • DO NOT use electrical appliances before having them checked by an electrician.
  • Empty your refrigerator and freezer if the electricity has gone off to prevent mold from growing inside.
  • DO NOT use any canned or packaged food or beverages due to possible contamination.
  • Change the air filters of the furnace if operating the blower.
